Illustrated Bible parables

This delightful book imagines a group of Sunday School students coming together to act out Jesus’ timeless parables in an event that brings out the whole community. The goal was to offer a fun colorful teaching tool for children. I worked closely with the illustrator to get the desired results for our layout. Each illustration was hand painted and then scanned. I retouched and imaged all scans for the best possible results and color.

Feedback resulted in improvements. Careful thought was given to the typography, composition, and colors. The font needed to be the very readable, the right size, and provide a lively feeling. In order to better visually separate each story, I chose to select different colors for each scene, or parable.
 

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

In 2021 the book was re-published as an eBook with new layouts optimized for an iPad screen. Through our internal research, we determined that our target audience primarily used iPads. The files were also tested and modified for iPhones as well as Android screens and we worked to ensure that these users had the same experience with the digital versions of the book.

Each image required alteration to offer more flexibility for the digital layout. I enjoyed the challenge to rethink the composition and to simplify the layouts. It was important to analyze each screen to ensure that they made sense individually. Check out the case study to learn more about how this digital transformation developed.
